G.C. Weekend

Isn't it funny how much our perspective changes as we grow?
When I was a child, General Conference made me want to self implode.
I stared at the speakers until my eyes glazed over, fruitlessly attempting to grasp these adult concepts.
I had no idea what they were talking about.
I would sneak into the next room to play with my stuffed animals until I was summoned back to my chair.
I. could. not. stop. squirming.

Fast forward to adulthood and I actually get butterflies when this biannual event approaches.
Listening to the fresh, inspired topics presented by leaders of God's church gives me a renewed perspective of what is truly important in this life.

Family, Charity, Love, Kindness, Faith, Work

Each year, we are encouraged to come to conference with a spiritual question.
Often, I pray to know my question. Other times, I pray that my already formed question will be answered.
When I take the time to do this, I am never disappointed. And this year was no exception.
I prayed for Lydia.
I asked Heavenly Father what I can do to raise a righteous, confident, happy daughter.

Elaine S. Dalton, Young Women General President, was the mouthpiece through which my heartfelt inquiry was answered. She began her topic by posing the following question:

How can a father raise a happy, well-adjusted daughter in today’s increasingly toxic world?

Though it was not directed towards mothers, it still made me smile when I heard the direction of her talk.
Specifically for daughters, no less. My daughter.
The nutshell answer:

How Beautiful. And so true. A daughter will learn about the love, respect, and support that she deserves from her future husband by the example her own daddy sets.

And this little girl LOVES her daddy.
(This may be my favorite picture of all time.)

The full talk can be read here:

After conference, we had the missionaries and our neighbor James over for dinner. Our gas still hadn't been turned on (because of the whole SWAT team fiasco), so Kyle volunteered to make his yummy crock pot fetticini alfredo.

Sister Osborne, why are you taking a picture of us?
Because I can, Elders.

We plopped Lyd in front of the eaters (her favorite place to be) and gave her a carrot so she could participate in dinner.

Lydie is such a happy clam.

I can't get enough of her precious smiles. It will forever be my prayer to keep those smiles coming throughout her life.

Haha so funny you took a picture of the Elders... good job :) And I fall more in love with your little baby girl every post you make. She's so happy! And she's going blond! And she looks like you! I love that her tongue is every smile :) Great description of conference. I don't think I fully appreciated it until I travelled to Salt Lake and saw it in person when I went up to BYU. I was hooked :)
